Ex-Gopher Basketball Star Signs with Timberwolves
Former Gophers stud, Jordan Murphy, has officially signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Timberwolves President of Basketball of Operations Gersson Rosas. The terms of the agreement were not released due to team policy.
Personally, I cannot be more happy about this, not only because Gopher basketball players never get drafted let alone signed by NBA teams, but because I loved watching this guy play during his time at the University of Minnesota. And he most certainly deserves a chance to play at the highest level especially in Minnesota.
I did not watch a whole lot of the NBA Summer League (booooorinnnng), but I did see a few highlights of Muprhy's play, and he looked solid. He averaged 8.9 points and about 5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game in his time in Las Vegas this past summer.
Murphy was dominant on the Gophers over the course of four seasons averaging 13.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. He received awards and recognition for outstanding play by being named All-Big Ten First Team by the media and All-Big Ten Second Team by coaches in his senior season last year.
He also ranks as one of the best rebounders in Big Ten history with 1,307 total rebounds, which places second all time.
This is an awesome signing for the Timberwolves, and I love it being a huge Jordan Murphy fan. It will be interesting to see what kind of deal he receives from the Wolves as more details are released. It will also be fun to see how much he plays, and if he can actually make a legitimate impact on a franchise that has been extremely unsuccessful.
I might actually have interest in watching the Wolves this year! Go Murphy and Go Wolves!
