Series Recap: Gophers Hockey, Technically, Take Series Over Wisconsin
After last weekend's abysmal showing against Penn State, the Gophers hockey team surprisingly bounced back quite nicely this past weekend. They took four of six points against the pesky Wisconsin Badgers!
They won game one handily, winning 4-1 and tied the second game, but lost the shootout so they did not get the stupid bonus point. Still, they took more points out of the weekend than Wisconsin so I consider that a winning series over the Badgers. I'll take it!
The Gophers are sitting, literally, right smack dab in the middle of the Big Ten standings at fourth place, three teams above them and three teams below them. And there seems to be a noticeable pattern forming so far this season. Whenever they play the teams below them, like Wisconsin sitting in sixth place, they seem to play well. Whenever they play the teams above them, they seem to get annihilated.
I am glad they are taking care of business against teams they should be beating, but if they want to compete on a national level, they have to be able to play with the better teams, and they cannot seem to do that.
At least they beat the Badgers Friday night and took more points on the weekend. I don't care how bad the Badgers are this year in hockey, whenever you can beat Wisconsin in any sport, I am happy!
Hopefully the Gophers can use this as motivation and bring some momentum into next week when they take on the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, I mean Hawks.
Screw the Badgers!
Pride on Ice! Go Gophers!
