Travelers Cup 2020: DJ Catches Fire
In a weird week that saw Brooks Koepka drop from the tournament, among other players taking caution to COVID-19, 36 golfers shooting at least 10 under par compared to 12 last year, and Dustin Johnson shooting an impressive 15 under in rounds 2 & 3 to propel him to his 21st tour win. After todays win DJ now has a tour win 13 years in a row, and if you didn't get to watch he was pretty much walking around the course like this:
After starting the weekend off very slow or niiiiice however you decide to look at it, shooting a 69 day 1 DJ followed that up with a couple of stellar rounds shooting 64 and 61. Finishing it out with a respectable 67 in R4. Finishing up the weekend shooting 19 under par! Rory Mcllroy looked promising but couldn't quite find it in R2 & R3 and the betting favoring Bryson DeChambeau finished with solid 15 under. Here's a look at the top of the field at the 2020 Travelers Championship:
Other storylines throughout the tournament:
Brendan Todd "meatsauced" his R4 as they would call it on KFAN, here at 10k we just say he pulled a Bubba. Much like Bubba in his eating challenges(Tune in every Thursday to see what I mean) Todd went into the homestretch with a solid lead, instead of slammin the door shut he shot a 75 in the final round. Much like Bubba trying to cram the 4 pizza rolls in his mouth when he has 15 mins left on his challenge, he choked when it mattered.
DeChambeau had drive ride up the cart path almost the entirety of the 480 par 4, but got caught in a storm drain so his second shot was from 40 yards out.... on a 480 yard par 4.....
Old man Phil has a solid showing in rounds 1&2 shooting 63&64 but showed that he cannot still hang with the kids, ended up shooting 2 over the final 2 days.
One of the more impressive putts you will see came from Canadian Mackenzie Hughes in R4. If you are anything like me watching it will piss you off because putting makes me wanna quit golf every time I play.
Lastly, we have a bizarre event and it happened off camera. Some guy decided to let one loose and farted so loud that he had the commentators holding back laughs. You hear the guys talking about their fart meanwhile Greg Chalmers hits a piss missile and nobody in the world cared because farts are funny.
Up next for the PGA Tour is the Rocket Mortgage Challenge, July 2nd-5th. I'd highly recommend tuning in. Not like there are any other sports to watch right now.
