Alright that sucked but look at the silver linings. We still have Thielen, Cook, Rudolph and one of the best defenses in the league. But wait, most of that doesn't matter when Kirk is behind center. Now I'm usually a pretty optimistic guy when it comes to the Vikings but, we have been left year after year with mediocre quarterbacks.
I miss Brett Favre, at this point I miss Keenum at least he played with some enthusiasm. Even Ponder on his best days had some enthusiasm and looked like he cared. Look at this list of quarterbacks- I don't see one standout guy on this list.
Yesterday's loss to the bears isn't on Kirk (maybe a little) I place all of the blame on general manager Rick Spielman. Look at that list above, it goes back through 8 years of average/below average quarterbacks. Guess how long Rick Spielman has been the GM for the Vikes? You guessed it, 8 whole years.
Kirk Cousins reminds me of a sugar cookie, its good but what you really want is something better like chocolate chip or peanut butter. And you know who passed up on the chocolate chip and gave the sugar cookie $28 million a year? Rick Spielman.
You all know Kirk's statistics against teams with a record above .500 so I'm not even going to mention that one. But without talking about statistics and just using a knee-jerk reaction from the game look at what he did. He checked down constantly, he fumbled twice, and when we needed him to make one throw to maybe give us some life, he overthrew Thielen on his way to the end zone. Even Thielen is getting upset with Kirk's performance, "At some point, you're not going to be able to run the ball for 180 yards, even with the best running back in the NFL. That's when you have to be able to throw the ball. ... You have to be able to hit the deep balls."
But that's enough complaining for this Vikings Monday, we'll put the Bears game behind us and try to find a win next week against the Giants. (And hopefully sometime soon Spielman gets canned)
